Well, the plan was to go out and try to mark one of the To Do's off my list.
My goals for this year are to land a 100+ pound shark from shore on a spinning outfit and to land a 100+ and 200+ pound Swordfish with spinning gear as well.
Using the big bad boy 100lb rated custom rod with a Shimano Stella 20000 with 250 yards of JB 130lb Hollow Core.
Well the winds were howling and I could not get a bait out so packed up and headed to the other side of the inlet to fish with the rest of the crowd (although not that crowded).
I only had my bait rod so fished it 10-30lb rod with a Shimano Calcutta 400 loaded with 15lb Momoi Blue Diamond Line. Went ahead and added a 60lb Floro leader and set up a reverse drop loop with a 3/0 circle hook.
Used some shrimp and soon had bait.
Live bait produced a few Rat Reds and one big boy that bottomed the Boga's.
Little later the live bait was dead so gave it a fillet job and put them on the hook. Another big Red that again bottomed out the Boga's
Had two cameras with me and both had dead batteries so only got these two pictures and they are actually both of the same fish (sorry).
Anyway, obviously didn't get my shark and then when on the Jetty I was actually trying for Snook. Guess I had better work on my Targeting Species as I only caught Red Fish.
Oh well still a decent night.
Both big reds gave me a run for my money on the Calcutta 400. The did fine but with only 15lb line I about got spooled. The drags were smooth as silk - Man I love that reel.
All for now....
