FISHING REPORT
City: Sebastian
Date: Thursday, March 9th, 2006
Time: 8PM till 1AM
Location: Sebastian Inlet - South Side - Catwalk & Jetty
Conditions: Great Night, warm, a little breezy and decent water
Tide: High or Low – in feet – Time
Moon Phase: Waxing Gibbous / 72% Full
Rod & Reel: Brought out some 6/0 reels and Star Rods for some shark fishing and some lighter spinning gear for Reds and Snook
Rigging: Shark Fishing Balloon Drift - Other 3/8oz crimp with a live bait hook
Bait: Skip Jack for the Shark and Pin Fish for Snook and Reds used some Shrimp and got some lil Jacks
Catch: 2 Solid Shark Hookups but went 0 for 2,landed 2 Jacks and hooked to darn many Dolphin
Comments: Stopped by Whitey's on the way and picked up some bait and headed back to the Inlet. Started off on th South Catwalk for nothing before moving down to the Jetty for some Shark action. Fist drift produced a HUGE hookup that had me looking at the spool with only 3 wraps of line left on it in a matter of seconds. It ended up spitting the hook as I never even got a hook set on it. It picked it up as I was drifting it out and started peeling line - I put the reel into gear and it about pulled me off the rocks so I just held on then nothing. Oh well, it was the first drift so things looked good.
Later another hookup that lodged the darn rod in the beach carts holder so tight we could barely get it out, once we did my knot failed and away Mr. Shark went.
Played around on the Ocean/Beach side and nailed a few Jacks that will be bait for tonight.
Headed back up to the catwalk. My dad kept getting hooked up and having his line ripped from his reel but couldn't get any hook sets. Finally they showed themselves - Dolphins - stealing baits but giving us a thrill at first with hopes of Big Bull Reds or Huge Snook. Well with Dolphins that active might as well head home.
Met a great guy named Matthew who landed a 16 pound 37 inch Snook that we put back to swim again. He also gave me some Bucktails he makes himself and they are AWESOME- will try them out tonight.
