To all you current and future "Deep Jiggers" of the Great Gulf Coast, Shibi here, posting the results of my 2-day offshore trip.:fishing1:
Only 13 anglers showed up to fish that weekend before Christmas. The seas were calm and with a small show of anglers, it made for an ideal fishing trip. We fished several deep rigs 137 miles and 12hrs from Port Aransas, Texas.
I bagged a 71 lb YFT with a 7oz Braid Tantrum Long Hammer Jig. I also yanked in 2 AJs and caught 27 BFTs using 7oz Williamson Speed Benthos Long Jigs.
For over a year, I stocked up on long jigs and used it for the first time on this trip, and the tunas were going crazy for them. I tossed a few old traditional type jigs, like the Diamond Jig, Megabait Live Jig, and Tady jigs but could not get a strike and I was not willing to spend too much time on them. Fishing was slow with those jigs.
Oh, they were a few anglers using Diamond Jigs, and they were catching....
one fish....to my three....four. Not bragging, just an observation. :cool2:
Longs jigs got wicked action and game fish are forced to notice and take a bite at them. These are the best jigs I've used....highlly effective and deadly.
Tried to post pics....3 times on both Bent sites....dunno if I'll ever try again
I'm discourage.:dunno:
