With our move to Florida looming on the horizon, Rebecca and I decided to make one last trip up to the Sierra's. We left San Diego at 7:00p.m. and got to Tom's place at 1:45 a.m. zzzzzzzzz

After sleeping in a little and a delicious pancake breakfast we jumped in the car and headed up to Sotcher Lake next to Devil's Postpile at Mammoth Lakes.

There was only one other person fishing on the lake and that is the way I like it. The wind was on and off, but it was not too bad to do a little dry fly fishing. Size 14 elk hair caddis and Royal coachmen dialed in the dry fly bite. I pulled in 7 cookie cutter rainbows and Rebecca got 3. Although Rebecca's bait was a littlemore unique. We tried rainbow powerbit, which in the past has produced amazing days at this lake, but not this day. Lures and power and Zekes oh my. Time for something new... I had some Gulp camo sandworms in my backpack. Why not... Sure enough they worked like a charm!

The wind was now picking up and the sun was going down so we packed up or gear and started to head down the mountain. On the way we came across an interesting site called Earthquake Fault. We stopped real quick and walked around to find a very cool exposed fissure.

The next morning and another great breakfast we went outside to still find frost on the car. brrrrr We headed up to rock creek and saw that the water was lower than we thought it would be so we changed tactics and headed on to Crowley for some late season browns.

Rebecca was not a fan of the cold and wind so she being the smart one stayed in the car and read her book. The wind combined with sage brush left the fly rod in the car so I fished a cast a bubble and fly with a size 12 Olive Matuka being the weapon of choice! And a successfull weapon it was with 7 cookie cutter browns all around 14"-16" only one came in on the Thomas Buoyant in perch color. I must have had 25 hits, but I was having trouble making them stick on 4# 35 yards out.

The browns are currently feeding on the perch fry, which at this age are olive green in color, so green is pretty much the way to go.

Again the wind came up, and this time it completely shut the bite down and we still had a 7 hour drive ahead of us.

So another successful trip in the sierra's surrounded by beautiful fall colors and some decent brown trout...Good Times!
