Everytime I go to Lanark Village I leave with fish and a smile!! I just love it over there! I took the family fishing Sunday the 22nd and what a day we had! Started out on Dog Island Reef playing around with some ladyfish...fun to catch, good size too...2-3 feet! We trolled around for a little bit with no luck, and motored over to see Peter and his Uncle Rocky out there in their Hewes. They were into a couple of trout and told us go, go out and catch some grouper! We anchored up for a few minutes and caught a couple dozen pinfish for baits, and right before we left, this puffer fish that had been chasing our pins to the boat finally got a hook in his mouth!

Then we headed out to a spot about 7 miles south of the reef and started trolling stretch 30's...first time I've tried this, and I will try it again and again!! Dennis Sr. was the first to hook up with this nice 27 inch grouper.

Not too long after that we hooked into another one, Liz is not an offshore kind of lady, but the smile says alot!

Bottom fishing is what they love and are used too, so we dropped anchor, put a chum bag over, and went to work. We were using live pinfish, squid, frozen sardines...we had an all you can eat buffet out but weren't getting anything in the boat! We had bites, two or three times something cut off our 80lb test leaders, got a shark almost to the boat, saw sharks, but still no fish in the boat! Then out of nowhere Liz's rod doubles over!! She was on the bottom with a whole frozen sardine and the line starts running away from the boat! We couldn't believe it when we got this 22lb king in!

She was also able to net my hat as it floated by!!
So fun!!! The bottom bite turned off completely, so we pulled anchor and trolled some more. Within minutes we had a double hook up! One legal, one not but man did they ever bury the hooks in their mouths!!! All three hooks embedded firmly in the corner of their mouths!! They weren't going anywhere! It was hilarious when we finally got them unhooked, trying to take pictures, get the short back in the water and he kept flopping around like a lunatic and we couldn't get ours hands on it!

Had a couple more double hook ups, pulled in another 27 inch grouper, then headed in just before dark What a day!!! Final count, 6 grouper, (Two 22's, a 24, 25, and two 27's), and a king...AWESOME! I think Liz might even do it again!

I have got to say...my boat rocks! IShe's a SeaChaser 230 LX Bay Runner by Carolina Skiff, Sunday we're fishing in 2-4's 7 miles offshore, then Monday we were fishing in 2 feet of water in St Marks refuge...the versatility is unbelievable, it is incredibly stable and it handles the waves exceptionally well! I love her!
Catch ya' soon
