how many people have used a regular trolling motor in saltwater. did it last, how long or a bad idea. the saltwater ones are a little pricey. i know its probley not the best thing to do but if you didn,t use it that much in saltwater, you thank it would be all right, of course after a good wash down, was just wondering.:dunno:

I Have A Trolling Motor On My Flats Boat, Only Been In Salt Water...about 4 Years. Not Using It Right Now But She Starts Up Weekly On The Checks. Never Had A Problem. Clean Her Good And You Won't Have Any Problems.

If you already have a trolling fresh water trolling motor that is just sitting in your garage use it till it stops.

If you are buying one buy a saltwater version.

I used a Motor Guide Freshwater in salt and it lasted only about a year. I have a Saltwater motor now but have only used it like twice as it has 3X steering that I do not like.

I ordered a Minn Kota RT55 for my '08 CS JVX20. Anyone had any experience with this unit?
